The Duke of Sussex, 42, sat down with GQ’s Zach Baron for a video interview, which was filmed in late September during Harry’s visit to New York City. During the chat, Baron brought up Harry’s “complicated relationship” with his father and brother, asking, “Is that something that you grieve? “Yes, of course,” Prince Harry answered, adding that family rifts are a “massively relatable issue for so many people.” “That continues to come up with me the whole time by people that I speak to. So I know how relatable it is,” Harry continued. “That’s probably why there’s so much fascination. And then people maybe look at us and go, ‘How are you going to work it out?’ And then, maybe, how I see you’re going to work it out, maybe that will help me work my stuff out. And some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out.” A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex clarified his comment about “some people” not wanting things to work out “was absolutely not intended as a swipe at his brother or any other member of his family. The comment was made in a general context and was not directed at his family in any way.” Prince Harry added during the interview, reiterating that he wants things to work out, “With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile. That’s the key point.” When asked if this wound was something that could be repaired, the Duke of Sussex said, “Yeah, of course.” “Look, scars stick around forever, but what your perception is and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, certainly letting go of the past, that’s something that I would encourage everybody to do,” he said. “If there’s certain things from the past that are still affecting your everyday, that’s harder to let go of. But yeah, for me, there’s enough drama in the world and enough drama in people’s lives than to continue with issues with family.” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, 45, stepped back from their roles as working members of the royal family in 2020, putting the familial rift in the spotlight. While there has been communication between King Charles and Prince Harry since the Sussexes’ move back to the U.K. two months ago, there has reportedly been no direct contact between Harry and Prince William, 44. “William’s view is clear — any relationship his father has with Harry or the Sussexes as a family is entirely up to him,” royal author Russell Myers exclusively told in a recent cover story. “But looking toward the future, he will have no relationship with them, in a working or private capacity whatsoever.” Prince Harry previously shared his hopes to make peace with his family in a 2025 interview with the BBC, saying, “I would love reconciliation with my family.
